Systemic Antibiotics – Quinolone

Composition
Each caplet film coated contains : Ciprofloxacin 500 mg

Tequinol® is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, which acts by the influence of DNA gyrase enzymes of bacteria. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic agent for sensitive gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens.

Indication
Treatment of infections caused by Ciprofloxacin sensitive microorganisms :urinary tract infections including prostatitis,urethritis and cervicitis gonorrhoeae ; gastrointestinal infections including typhoid fever caused by S. typhi ;  respiratory tract infections except pneumonia due to Streptococcus ; skin and soft tissue infections;  bone and joint infections.

Recommended Dosage

Adults:

Urinary tract infections : mild/moderate 250 mg twice daily. Severe 500 mg twice daily

Respiratory tract, Bone, Joint, Skin, Soft tissue infections : mild/moderate 250 -500 mg twice daily. Severe 500-750 mg twice daily.

Chronic prostatitis : 500 mg twice daily.

Gastrointestinal infections : 500 mg twice daily

Acute gonorrhoeae : 250 mg as a single dose

To achieve an adequate level in the treatment of acute osteomyelitis, dosage should not be lower than 750 mg twice daily.

Duration of treatment depends on severity of infections, clinical improvement and bacteriological course. In acute infections, duration of treatment is usually 5-10 days. Generally the treatment should be continued for minimum of 3 days after disappearance of clinical symptoms.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity ; pregnancy and lactation. Children, juvenile before the end of growth phase.
