Composition

Each caplet contains : Amoxicillin 500 mg

Opimox Dry Syrup contains : Amoxicillin 125 mg/5 ml

Opimox Forte Dry Syrup contains : Amoxicillin 250 mg/ 5 ml

Opimox Injection contains : Amoxicillin 1 g

 

Indication

It is used to treat certain kinds of bacterial infections :

  • Respiratory tract infections (H. influenzae, Streptococcal pneumonia, E. coli, Streptococci and certain strains of Staphylococci-non penicilinase producing strain)
  • Genitourinary tract infections (E. coli, P. mirabilis and Streptococcal faecalis)
  • Skin and soft tissue infections (Streptococci, E. coli, and certain strains of Staphylococci-non penicilinase producing strain)
  • Gonorrhea : N. gonorrhoeae (non penicilinase producing strain)

 

Recommended Dosage

Adult and children ( > 20 kg) : 500 mg every 8 hours or 2 x 1000 mg

Chlidren ( > 20 kg) : 20 - 40 mg/kg body wt daily in 3 divided doses every 8 hours 

Patients with renal function is require to reduction in dose. Dialysis pentoneal patients receive maximum 500 mg daily

Uretitis gonococci : 3 g as a single dose

Bacterial septicemia : Adult 500 mg everi 6-8 hours; children ( < 20 kg) 40 mg/kg body wt daily in equally divided doses every 6-8 hours

Patients with renal function (i.v) :

Creatinine clearance 10 - 30 mL/min : 1 g then 500 mg every 12 hours

Creatinine clearance < 10 mL/min : 1 g then 500 mg every 24 hours

 

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Infectious mononucleosis.
