Composition

Each capsule contains : Cefadroxil 500 mg

Opicef Dry Syrup contains : Cefadroxil 125 mg/ 5 ml

Opicef Forte Dry Syrup contains : Cefadroxil 250 mg/ 5 ml

Indication

This medication is a cephalosporin-type antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections

• Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Genitourinary tract infections
• Osteomyelitis, septic arthritis

Recommended Dosage

Adult : 1 - 2 g daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses

Mild urinary tract infection (cystitis) : 1 - 2 g daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses

Urinary tract infections : 2 g daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses

Skin and skin structure infections : 1 g daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses

Mild respiratory tract infections : 1 g daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses

Moderate to severe  respiratory tract infections : 1 - 2 g daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses

Children : 25 - 50 mg/kg body wt daily in 2 divided doses

Opicef relatively safe to use in geriatric patients and children

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to cefadroxil or other cephalosporins.
